A List of Badass Female Leads in Fiction

Girls read about girl characters and feel like they can one day grow up and do whatever the heck they want to in their lives. They can follow their dreams, fight back against injustice, and love whoever they choose to. With all that power at their fingertips, here are a few reasons why ALL women in fiction (or those who ID as women) are badass.

  1. Women can save the world. Ahem. Ahem. Tris. Divergent.
  2. Women can start revolutions. Katniss Everdeen, I’m looking at you
  3. They can be the smartest (and baddest) witch in wizarding school. (calling Hermione Granger here!)
  4. They can fight wild beasts and take down any evildoers in their way. (Katsa in the Graceling series)
  5. They can become the first female knight in Tortall history. (Tamora Pierce’s Keladry and Alanna series)
  6. She finds herself more than equal with the handsome prince. Oh, and did I forget to mention she’s a CYBORG? (Cinder! Marissa Meyer)
  7. Lucy and Susan became QUEENS of NARNIA! (Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe)
  8. Meg Murry (A Wrinkle in Time) can bounce through time itself like it’s a bouncy castle at a fair
  9. She can choose her own husband and make up her own mind with a huge dose of saltiness and sass, why THANK YOU, Miss Bennet from Pride and Prejudice
  10. She fell down the rabbit hole… and everything when snicker-snack in Alice in Wonderland.
